Iberia Business Class: Is Madrid to Prague Worth the Upgrade?

Iberia Business Class: A Realistic Review of Intra-European Flights
Having flown Iberia's Business Class within Europe, I wanted to share a balanced perspective, especially considering some of the less-than-stellar reviews I'd encountered beforehand. My initial experience on a long-haul Iberia flight to Madrid from Chicago wasn't particularly memorable, so I approached this intra-European leg with tempered expectations.
This review focuses on short to medium-haul flights, typically operated by Airbus A319, A320, or A321 aircraft. While my specific flight was from Madrid (MAD) to Prague (PRG), the experience is generally consistent across Iberia's European network. One notable advantage is the slightly increased legroom compared to some other European airlines with similar Business Class configurations. Unlike some competitors, Iberia doesn't offer a tray table on the middle seat.
The cabin configuration is typically 3x3, with the middle seat left vacant in Business Class, ensuring extra space. I was seated in 2A, a window seat. While there was no pre-departure beverage service, the flight attendant was welcoming and helpful with storing my luggage.
The meal service was a highlight. On my flight, the choices were Steer Eye Fillet in a Cordoba sauce or Pumpkin-filled Pasta in a Ripened Cheese Sauce. The meal was served on a tray with a Mediterranean salad, Goat Cheese from Gerona, and Toffee Pudding. The only minor drawback was that the main course could have been warmer.
Important Update (October 26, 2023): Since my original flight, Iberia has been retrofitting many of its A320 and A321 aircraft with universal power plugs, USB charging stations, and satellite Wi-Fi. This is a significant improvement for passengers seeking to stay connected and productive during their flights.
Overall, Iberia's Business Class within Europe offers an enhanced experience compared to Economy, including a vacant neighboring seat, an upgraded meal, priority check-in/boarding, and lounge access. While it's essentially an Economy seat with added perks, the competitive pricing and Oneworld alliance membership make Iberia a worthwhile option for many travelers. Don't expect a revolutionary experience, but a comfortable and efficient journey with good service.
