Singapore Airlines Business Class: Is the 737-800 Worth the Splurge to Phuket?

Singapore Airlines Regional Business Class: A Short-Haul Review (Updated October 26, 2023)

Recently, I had the opportunity to experience Singapore Airlines' Regional Business Class on a short flight. While the flight attendants provided a warm welcome, the seat recline was minimal, slightly impacting the passenger behind. However, for shorter routes, the comfort level was adequate.

My journey began at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). Having not flown through SIN in several years, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the SilverKris Lounge in Terminal 2. While security was efficient and boarding was prioritized for Business Class and Star Alliance Gold members, the lounge felt dated. The removal of the business center was a minor inconvenience, as I prefer the option of using provided computers rather than unpacking my laptop.

The Business Class cabin features a 2x2 configuration across three rows. The grey leather seats boast adjustable headrests and a generous 38-inch seat pitch with a 22-inch width. A notable feature is the inclusion of a leg rest, aligning these seats more closely with Singapore Airlines' long-haul product. While some aircraft feature slightly newer B737 MAX 8s with a different seating arrangement (2x2 in rows 11 & 14 and 1x1 in row 12), the B737-800 NGs offer ample overhead bin space for standard roller boards.

While the seat includes controls for recline, lumbar support, and leg/footrest extension, the lumbar support and recline felt subtle. Despite this, the pre-departure drink and hot towel service were appreciated. The flight attendant's personalized welcome and confirmation of my Book the Cook order added a touch of class.

The Book the Cook program allowed me to pre-order my meal. This time, the meal was exceptionally good, arriving hot and flavorful. I opted for a dish from the program, which was served on a single tray with yogurt, fruit, a side salad, fresh chili, and soya sauce. A breadbasket followed, offering a tempting selection of pastries, including delicious cinnamon rolls.
