Tru or False? Honest Review of Tru by Hilton at OKC, AUS, and LAS.

Tru by Hilton: A Fresh Take on Budget-Friendly Travel
In October 2017, Hilton introduced a new brand to the hospitality landscape: Tru by Hilton. Billed as a vibrant, affordable, and youthful hotel experience, Tru aimed to capture the hearts (and wallets) of a new generation of travelers. While the initial goal of 500 locations within five years wasn't quite met, with over 200 hotels now open across the US and Canada, and expansion into the Caribbean and Latin America on the horizon, Tru has certainly made its mark.
What sets Tru apart? Think Scandinavian design meets modern functionality. Rooms are minimalistic, yet comfortable, featuring clever storage solutions like under-bed suitcase space. Forget traditional travel-sized toiletries; Tru opts for eco-friendly, refillable dispensers. While some might miss the traditional business center, a small tablet provides local information and internet access. The lobby is designed for socializing, boasting workstations, meeting areas, and even a pool table.
One unique aspect is the complimentary breakfast bar, featuring a staggering 30 toppings for cereal and yogurt. A small selection of drinks and snacks, including locally-themed items, are available for purchase. And for caffeine addicts, complimentary LaVazza coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available 24/7.
While Tru aims for affordability, Hilton Honors members should note that stays earn 5 points per dollar spent, unlike the standard 10 points at other Hilton properties. Parking can also be a challenge, even for Diamond members. Shuttle service, especially at busy airports like Las Vegas, can be unreliable.
Despite these minor drawbacks, Tru by Hilton offers a refreshing and budget-conscious travel experience. It's a unique option, especially in locations where affordability is key. Just be sure to factor in the reduced Hilton Honors points and potential parking or shuttle challenges when planning your stay.
